Quote:Why without the mask? Visibility issues? Or fit?

Twofold. It will be the first show that my horse will be doing, and it's main objective therefore will be to get him used to it. I will therefore thus be most involved with animal wellfare and working him through the show. I haven't ridden with the helmet yet and need to get used to it myself, too, and I find it's Always better to do one thing at a time and all at a slow pace.

Secondly I still have to improve the padding of the helmet to get it fit my head perfectly. At the moment the alignement of the mask needs to be improved little, although the mask itself fits well.
Good stuff! Yes, I can well imagine. I have a lot of work to do to the lining on this one yet, before I even think of getting on a horse with it!
Good luck with the show, and your new horse!
Salvete omnes,

Had to travel south of Moesia an detahed duty from V Macedonica to the sunny gold mines at Lavrium. Thought I post a couple of photos. I just got my Squamata in from Mr. Suhel. My gear is not 100% yet but I was too excited to wait.

Great photos!
Great stuff! Get some neat's-foot oil on the leather soon! Looks good. That must be the silver-plated scales?

Here is my basic kit for a late 1st century - early 2nd century auxiliary, based in Southern England. I have some work to do to make the kit more authentic, but general comments welcome and pointers to what I need to work on are appreciated.
