On the greaves. I know Vegetius advocated their use for the front rankers in his time, "The Dominate, P167 of B&C".

Thanks Andrew, saved my bacon there, I was searching out evidence I was sure I'd seen somewhere! There based on the Kunzing hoard greaves (3rdC) but I don't know of any later examples found in the archaeological record I could replicate.

My sword is suspended by a sword belt I put on before I put on my belt. I believe this is the way Stilichio is portrayed on that famous tryptych. Suspension from the wide-belt rings or from a narrow baldric is attested, too, I think.

The scarf, again I'm sure I've seen pictorial evidence - but as Lucius says, it is a Roman piece of kit which sees practical and adaptable and which I'd really really miss if I didn't have. You've got me thinking now, Theo...! :?

I am very proud of the belt plaques, which have been made by my dear friend Avitianus, (I only attached them to the belts), and the hamata has been degalvanized with vinegar...guess who did it? ....yes! Faventianus

As well as protecting from sunburn, I often dip my neckscarf in water before putting it on, which helps keep cool.

A couple of photos were taken in the evening, but for the most part they were taken on the Monday (when Mithras wasn't there!). The soldier line-up was just before the finale with other groups (Napoleonics and assorted cavalry) so some chose not to put their armour on. Oh, and there are some civilian pics too hock:

This is Deepeeka's revised version. Some assembly is required. You need to sweat solder the three brass sections together. It helps to know how to play a trumpet. As it is, I can get a nice steady tone from the instrument. Not bad, considering how cheap it is.
