Catterick buckle 4th-5th century AD
#1
Hello there,

Is there anyone who has more information/pictures of the 4/5th century buckle found at the Roman fort at Catterick, North Yorkshire? It is pictured in Bishop's and Coulston's Roman Military Equipment (unfortunately I don't have copy yet Sad ), and on the British Museum website.

Thanks in advance!

What do you want to know? It's discussed in the article "Soldiers and Settlers in Britain, Fourth to Fifth Century" by S C Hawkes, which you can find here:-

And, in more detail, by E J Hildyard's 1958 report on Cataractonium.

Any idea where I can find this? I tried Googling it, but no usable results so far.. Sad

To be honest, I need every tiny bit of information I can find about it and its context.. I have to make an exact copy of it (including patinas etc.), and write a report about it as a school assignment. Wink

Again, thank you very much!

Best regards,

Manuel

Try contacting the York Archaeological Society as it was published in their Journal, volume 39.
