I also think it has to do with the fact that it's a goat leather piece which was chemically tanned. (but it was cheap).
Indeed leather working is addictive. Or more precisely. Crafts are really addictive, and leather working is one that doesn't need much space and is easy to do between some other jobs, when you just have some time, but not enough to set up for more complex jobs.

Word of advice: lose the leather thong you have used. By the yellow coloring through and through, this really screams Chrome-tanned leather. I have a whole veg tanned cow (OK, its in two halves), so thin strips from the edges are no problem.

It seems that that has to do with the picture, Robert. The real piece isn't that yellow.
