Thanks Robert, but it is Cesar who has done all of the hard work. I merely sit and read and write and occasionally try to offer little bits of advice to people.
PS I am sending you a PM

You're right! I do like them!
That blade looks fantastic! Whoever made it is definitely going on my list of recommended suppliers.
Laudes to you

why thank you!
They were apparently cast a lot of years ago in Holland, from a real PvGIO mold, ie the real specimen was used for the mold... a few of them are used by the Gemina Project. and there arent many around.
I think the blades used were the Nijmegen ones... the one on the left... and right to be precise...
I have never gotten round to finishing it and might still give it a try... even start recasting it... or.... if i ever get around smithing, ill try and forge one...
but at the moment i am busy with a samurai armour restauration.......

ps ill post better pics as soon as i get my hands on a quality camera.

The blade are cast? Or only the hilt?
If you want to make the left pugio (Leeuwen pugio), remember the dots decoration are beaded strips solded to the sheath.

At present i am working on an 1860's forged/welded theatre blade (greek/roman sword) which will become a Yari tip since it is very compatible with some forms of yari spears...
I will reheat it with a clay layer to get a true HAMON line in the blade...
might even try that technique on a pugio blade for fun one day.......
something different hahahaha......
does anyone know of extensive metal research into dagger blades, swords, welding, forging etcetera? would be such a stirr to find a folded spatha or gladius!!!

Marcus, weren't some roman weapons made of damascus steel? Not the same as folded, but the aesthetic is similar.

Romans used pattern-welded blades at least from second century AD on, Henk. 8)
Lok at this (bad) pic of a Third century pugio from Poza de la Sal (Burgos/Spain):

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Salve Omnes. Does anyone have the dimensions of the Leiden (early) pugio anywhere. I am very poorly documented, so would love a good link or a scan of a text or a picture of a reconstruction with some scalebar.
I won't be starting on it for some time, though, so don't expect pictures soon. Struggling with my subarmalis, trying out a new, very practical design, but having a spot of bother with correct measurements. Oh well, nearly weekend, time for a refit after I shorten my kneelength Deepeeka hamata.
