G'Day Bros n' sons n' gents n' such,
Anyone here ever get the chance to take in much of HBO's ROME series? I checked it out this weekend and I found it fastenating not so much due to the Romaness of it all but because of the manner in which it portrayed the more minute aspects of the individual private lives of a few of the citizens.
In the opening scene of the first episode there is an encounter between legionares and the Gauls. Very interesting helmet designs I suppose of earlier Republican concept. These seemed of hammered bronze with no brow guard and smallish cheek plates which hug tightly to the cheeks.
Any idea as to their validity and also your general opinion of the series?
Thanks much as always. Hope you are all having am awesome weekend in your parts.
VIRES ET HONO!
Cheers!

Loved the series, but have only seen the first one.
The helmets appear to be inspired by Trajan's column, so no archological evidence for them I believe. But the overall appearance of the series is great. I look forward to the second one coming out over here.

Thanks Heaps for your sage Byron,
Hmmmm think I'll go do a check on Trajan's column see what I can dig up. Have been using the net at large for all of my reference. Would like to obtain some good solid reference works eventually.
Very grateful for that sir.
BTW I am happy as Larry for the advice you gave me last night re: noisy neighbors. Balista has been shooting to the right a little but one bolt seemed to do the trick. Has been quiet as since. Thanks for that. Maybe they should change the phrase going postal to going Roman. Ya see you are sSSSUCH a trend setter.
Have a good one Byron enjoy your evening sir.
