Just place two fingers over the offending item as it moves across the screen. Worked for me.

Wow amazing photos...even Dad who re enacts the Passion each year for his church, thought it looked amazing guys!

It brings back memories as kid when I was taken to a church where they re enacted the passion. The first year it was Thundering, and the church doors burst open revealing ten roman soldiers marching up the marble floor....I was so Sh*t scared....one of teh soldiers stood right beside me ( last tiem i sit near the aisle) all i can remember is watching his sword.....he put his hand on my head and I almost died...thinking this was it! Amazing how a 6 year olds imagination works!

Then the whole congregation would march through the grounds (thankfully the rain had stopped) following the soldiers holding flaming torches....I still remember the hobnails sounds on the pavement.

Great to see you gusy getting involved.....and authentically....

@Robert...The leather armour was an old BBC prop worn by the 'Jailer' who was a member of the Church, not a re-enactor!! If it were up to me, it would have been banned!!

My long range plan is to do something very much like that, but with actors and audience mingling in the streets and plazas. Not quite like "Theatre in the Round", but rather "Theatre Around You" as it were. It will be put together in a large set, in which the buildings and streets simulate those in a 1st Cent Judean city.

It's a pretty expensive proposition, though, so a huge inflow of cash is required. Any ideas anyone? Gold bullion gladly accepted.

It was, in fact, interest in getting the armor right that got me into Roman reenacting in the first place. Having said that, and without any critical eye gazing in any direction but toward myself, would not the soldiers really have been auxilia? I would suspect that to be true, but I've gone around that circle a number of times. Pilatus may have had a squad of personal guards who were segmentata-clad legionaries, of course, but the soldiers in and around Jerusalem--auxilia, right?

Yes, but raised from Citizen volounteers! So they could have been equiped the same as the legionaries. Looking at the Coh XV Vol shield cover from Roomberg, which fits a curved rectangular shield it's quite possible. Also from the same site comes the remains of a pilum! My reasoning can be read here..

the original shield cover is here..

Coh II Italica cR were based in Syria Palaestina at the time. and are mentioned as 'The italic cohort' in ACTS:10

Similarly, the leather breastplate and trooper helmet which can be seen in the photos from Leicester were worn by a member of the church who was playing the part of the centurio.

I am the one prominantly wearing segmentata in the photos. I am aware of the anacronism when we can be fairly sure that Judea was garrisoned with Syrian auxiliaries, but I do not own any auxiliary kit, particularly of the type Syrians in Roman service might have been wearing.

By the way Peronis, I didn't know you had a brush crest as well as your horsetail Confusedhock: .
