More Animal Cruelty
#16
Quote:I didn’t see the clip and don’t care to. I believe that people have a right to see what they choose and I’ve enjoyed certain clips here that other have found offensive, but if it is about animal cruelty, you might want to think about the young kids that may come here and see it, thinking that this site only contains information relating to Rome. Some parents put filters to block young kids from seeing things like this, then come here and find a link that bypasses some filters and takes them straight there.

I know that seeing garbage like this puts out an understanding of some of the travesties that go on, and by making people aware, that’s how movements start to stop it, but here at RAT, we might want to think about the younger, more impressionable kids that may also see it.

Just a thought.

I agree with you to a point Steve...if RAT was flooded with such things, then it would be a problem. In fact, I myself even questioned the purpose of posting such a thing more than once or a few times. But, this is the OT section....

And to take your comments a step further. If impressionable youths are in fact moved by such clips to do something about animal cruelty, isn't that what we want? I don't think anyone save those with mental incapacities would view such things as anything but dispicable. And if you know of someone who tortures animals at a young age without remorse, call the police IMMEDIATELY. This can lead to serious future problems, especially if said person wets the bed, or has intense sexual fantasies at a young age.

Actually I wasn't thinking about the value of educating them, I was thinking of the young kids seven, eight, nine years old, that browse the internet. How many of them have seen HBO’s Rome or 300 and now want to see more, they browse around and come across RAT, only to see animal cruelty. How many kids are going to be haunted by the memories of what they see?

A few years ago, after 911, an American civilian was captured in Iraq and beheaded on TV. A teacher in one of the high schools around here decided to show it to his class to let them experience life, and see what really goes on in the world. He wouldn’t let the ones that wanted to leave, leave. There was a big law suit because some of these high school students were traumatized by it.

I not say that making an animal suffer is the same as killing a human, but think of the young kids that are going remember this clip for years, or even all their lives. I saw a few things as a kid that stayed with me, just as I’m sure other have.

Some will say that kids aren’t that sensitive, but some are and some aren’t.

All I’m saying, is that I don’t think a decent place like RAT should be a place where young kids could accidentally stumble across something like this. If it was logon restricted, that would be different ( I know we cant do that ). Then someone would have to make an effort to see it, not just some kid looking for info on Rome, possible browsing the internet and being traumatized.

And just a side note, I’ve always felt that to each their own, that there are all kinds of things on the internet, and “reader beware.â€

Steve, we're discussing Spartan pederasty in the Greek section, and given the popularity of 300 there's a likelihood that some will stumble across that.

You can't wrap them all up in cotton wool, but I see what you're saying. I suspect RAT will actually be a bit too dull for youngsters of that age anyway, and I certainly hope they haven't seen Rome at all.

I just watched the rest(well sped through the rest) and just cant find a moment of understanding for people that do that to any animal(or person) and feel they obviously are a bit warped. There is no animal husbandry going on here(I recall the young bulls on the farm being castrated on the yard, and realised where steers came from) and this is not comparable. Just pure evilmindedness!

I understand your concerns here, i'm a mother myself and remember my daughter having a nightmare after watching Critters or Gremlins or some such film, without my knowledge.
It didn't occur to me that very young children would be browsing this site... these videos are available on Yahoo, You Tube and other places they could come across them
Thereagain, you are talking about kids up to 9 years old who have seen Rome or 300, which is a 15 release - because of the violence and sexual scenes. What the hell are they doing watching films of this sort...and in that case, why are their parents putting Internet filters on except for pornography..or the physical safety of the children ?

yes, obviously these people are selling the furs, but does not excuse the pointless cruelty! they aren't killing these animals, they are just torturing them. At least the seal hunters are killing the animals...... Confusedhock:
