Amazon Reenactment
#31
Hi AthenaK,

Here's a Hoplite group from the UKthat includes some of its members participating as Scythians---including a few women. You might enjoy looking over their costuming guide for Scythians and get some ideas for your own kit.

I am working on my own Scythian impression. I have the soft kit and am now working on the armour and weapons. This is me and my wife. Please note my wife's outfit is just a generic Middle Eastern type. I still have to make her a proper Scythian costume. Mine was inspired by this embossed bowl from the 5th century BC.

Let me know if I can be of any more help in your quest!

Cheers,
Tim (aka Tymnes the Scythian)

You guys should watch the 1956 version of Helen of Troy, if you haven't already. Scythian archers aplenty. You'd also love the rest of the panoplies being worn, I was very impressed.

Just found this post again!
That was a great clip of the scythian armoured cavelry, Gioi!

Athena, have you decided what period you are going to re-enact?
Visne partem mei capere? Comminus agamus! * Me semper rogo, Quid faceret Iulius Caesar? * Confidence is a good thing! Overconfidence is too much of a good thing.

Quote:Hi Athena, Have you read Steven Pressfields "Last of the Amazons"?

The girl in the SARM.JPG pic looks quite similar tio the descriptions given in that novel!

You could do that no trouble!

That's my favourite book of his.....!

Athena, I am in the English group that has the Scythian/Amazons...the women who want to do anything martial portray mercenary allies of the Hoplites or their enemies...!
This is one group where women 'wear the trousers'...

Salve,

As far as kick-a$$ Amazon fighting women go, and for the record I do not know how authentic this was but, Gaia on HBO’s Rome was one tough gladiator like lady!

AthenaK - If anyone is foolish enough to give you trouble doing reenacting or whatever, don't worry about it, we'll all take good care of them for you.

What sort of armor are you really looking for, ma'am?

Do you have a certain timeperiod you want to portray? (Sigh, the first of this thread is a long time ago).

Maybe we could steer you in the right direction?

PS, very alluring avatar, to be sure. Nice lighting effect.
