Salve,

Two good one's are Butser Ancient Farm ,and Flag Fen. We've done jobs at both of them, but I'm not sure what the state of Butser is at the moment.

There is also Cinderbury Iron Age Village

http://www.cinderbury.co.uk/

They approached me to do a job a year ago and certainly sounded good. They were about to start excavations on a nearby Roman Villa at that time which could make it a trip doubly worth considering.

There is also Castell Henlys in Wales

I went there a few years back with my family and had a great time. The staff were more used to dealing with general toursists but one person there was completing her archeology Doctorate so was very interesting to talk to.

There is also Archaolink outside of Aberdeen! That is at the supposed site of the battle of Graupius Mons (or Mons Graupius) Agricolas crushing defeat of the Caledonians! Or thereabouts!

At which the Legions took no part and all the hard work was done by the Batavians! 8)

Another place to consider is Bede's World

http://www.bedesworld.co.uk/

Located just a few miles down the road from Arbeia, so perfectly set to be part of your journey across Hadrian's Wall.

And though it is not within your time frame you may want to pop in to the nearby Beamish

http://www.beamish.org.uk/

which is a very large living history museum dedicated to the Industrial Revolution in the North East. I'm lucky enough to live just down the road from a similar museum (Black Country Museum) and though they are way out of our era the quality of these places make a visit worthwhile. Think an ultra realistic Archeon with cloth caps and braces.

PS I'm not taking any kick backs from the Tourist Board - honest
