Hi

I just picked up a middle bronze age 1000 BC Italian sword. I’m looking for any information regarding the Italian people of that time and any info on their swords.

In The Archaeology of Weapons by R. Ewart Oakeshott it doesn’t give much information on it.

Thanks

Hi,

I’m sure somebody out there knows something about the people that were around in Italy before the Etruscans, the culture, habits, weapons etc. I’m looking for what ever you have.

Thanks

Maybe Stefan Jaroschinsky might be helpful. E-mail him, he´s a very friendly person.

You might want to post over on the Bronze Age Center as well, there are some very knowledgeable folks there.

Be sure to post a photo of your sword, too, so we can all drool about it!

About the Italian culture of that time, I'm not sure how much information there is to be had. There are general books about the European Bronze Age, but mostly pretty vague and general. It's pre-history, after all, no written records. Plus the chronology for that area is hopelessly screwed up, so you can't trust any dates that you see!

Oh, there could very well be a pertinant volume or two in the Praehistorische Bronzefunde series, but they'll be hard to find, expensive, and probably not in English.

Good luck, though, and nice sword! (Saw it on SFI.)

Thanks I'll try posting the question over there. And your right, I checked through the internet and I keep getting conflicting data.
