Nothing so specific, just the broad charge raised by A Drachmann, which wasted no time with small scale complaints (translation or dating) or at least only incidentally - since as you noted he seemed to feel Biton is basically swill or a hoax. So thanks for the answer.

Incidentally, since you mentioned McNicoll's book, you might be interested (if you don't already know it) in Lars Karlsson's book, Fortification Towers and Masonry Techniques in the Hegemony of Syracuse, 405-211 BC (Stockholm: Svenska Institutet i Rom, 1992).
There are some very interesting insights here, too.
