Osprey Roman Military Clothing illustrations on exhibition

Quote:Graham,

Is there any chance of the exhibition coming to the U.S.?

Well I did reply to the request for exhibition material from Dr Linda Ellis from San Francisco State University. However as yet I have not received any response.

So in theory the answer is yes I would certainly be interested in sending the exhibition to the U.S.

Graham,
I am wondering about the process and the amount of time you put into illustrating one of Osprey's books? Also, where do you find the correct reference materials to ensure accuracy? Thanks-AL

Hello Al

What you are seeing in the Osprey Clothing books is really the product of over six years research into that particular subject plus a lifelong interest in Roman history and twenty years experience in re-enactment.

Most of the research was carried out at Manchester University. Paul Holder is a Librarian there and John Peter Wild is based there too. Both answered many questions or assisted with finding reference material.

Both my friend Raffaele D'Amato and I have collected many books on the subject ourselves, sometimes so many we do not know what is in them all! I think too many people feel they can find all their answers on the Internet or asking a few simple questions on RAT without appreciating the hard work that goes into finding out any answers at all and the research continues to go on.

Some of the artworks from the clothing series have been reproduced in an exhibition in Classe, near Ravenna, Italy.

Graham,Thank you for the information. Historical illustration is a field I would like to get into(especially Ancient Greek and Roman history).
