Pre-Constantinian Church discovered in Israel
#31
With all due respect a small correction to Timothy.
The eytmology of his name in Greek is TIMO TON THEO (TH=th in thursday)
TIMO = I honor someone or something
so TIMOTHEOS = the one who honors God not the one who fears him.
Kind regards
Stefanos

It's ironic that I'm an atheist then! My name is usually translated as 'He Who Fears God' in English, but that's using the rather old fashioned meaning of the word 'fear' to mean 'respect, honour, value'. 'He Who Honours God' makes more sense to modern English speakers. That's certainly what Paul meant when he gave Timotheos that baptismal name.
