There was in the Napoleonic army a man called Larrey. He was the chief surgeon in the Imperial Guard and like others like him he maybe considered one of the patron saints of army medics.
He was deeply respected by everyone, friend and foe alike.
It is said that at Waterloo, Wellington ordered an artillery battery to cease fire, lest they would hit Larrey, who happened to pass by within range at that moment. Then Wellington took off his hat and when asked why, he answered: "I salute Honour passing."
I read Gaius Decius Aquilius' post many times and I take off my hat.

Edited by: Antoninus Lucretius at: 3/25/04 5:10 pm
