5 Years of Military School at The Citadel, followed by ten years as a Police officer, detective, and now Supervisor.

Why 5 years??? Well that is a long discussion...
Fell out of planes and wandered around on a big beach with no ocean in sight.
Weird- 10 people so far in the military (not counting Antonius' secret service ) but only 8 selected that category in the poll.
Never touched a uniform except when I was a kid and we raided the Army/Navy surplus stores, and now the Roman kit. Didn't even join a fraternity in college.
Legio XX
Well OK, It's not really classified. Never been in the military and managed to get a discharge after four weeks in the french army.
I asked to drive a tank. I like tanks. Then the colonel began to put up all kinds of objections. The french way of doing things. I hadn't done this, I should have to do that and so on...
I guess a good officer would have said "You wanna drive a tank, son? Sign here".
But as things were I was bound to fly a desk or drive a truck around for sixteen months. Forget it.
I wanted to drive a tank, not a truck...
I remember I got into the barracks on april 1st. "This, I thought then, does not bode well for the future..."
But afterwards I got shot at on a regular basis for eight months in Lebanon. Does that count?
Rusty, I met a fellow from the Citadel once in Vegas, during a SOF convention..

Edited by: Antoninus Lucretius at: 3/12/04 9:01 pm

Hi Jenny,

I'm with the Colorado Army National Guard 157th FA, stationed at Ft. Carson. we've been on active duty since last May for operation noble eagle. I've been assigned to security at the Pueblo chemical depot, guarding our country's WMD's until the facility being built to destroy them comes online. the storage bunkers have only leaked mustard gas a few times since I've been here!
Hi Declan,
Great, you Reserve guys are doing a tremendous job. My unit works with a Guard unit from Michigan which is deployed here for six months and frankly, I can't tell the difference between the AC and RC guys, unless I look at the patch. Real professionals, and one total Army team!
Cheers
Totally civilian on my part. The closest I've come to military is: working in an army/navy store for about four years; like wearing cargos and love swiss army knives. LOL.

One day my dream, if God, money, and time permitts is to join a Roman re-enactors club. Yeah that'd be nice. But I dunno if there are any in the NYC area.

I was in the US Army from 1984 to 1995, then I was medically retired. I've always been VERY interested in military history, with Roman history being my favorite topic.
P.S. I guess I should add I retired a staff sergeant, and spent my years in the infantry.

Edited by: jlg3 at: 3/18/04 11:56 pm

Hi All,
This is my first posting so please forgive me if I get it wrong.

I spent 12 years in the Royal Australian Navy from 1966 (Boy Seaman aged 15) until 1978. Vietnam service (twice) and once to Mururoa Atoll in 1975 to try to stop the French Nuclear Tests. So, yeah I guess I am ex-military.
I told it from the beginning, my interest is in knowing the percentage of civilians and military in this forum. No need to give details...
It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Wasn't Antoninus Lucretius one of those frogmen who bombed the Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior, or something like that?
