Unfortunately one does tend to feel like Mary Mother of Jesus when wearing a headshawl in this manner... However, and this is not my field so help me out, wasn't it somewhat obligatory, at least in the Republican years, for adult women to cover their heads while outdoors?<br>

Now this is probably not so applicable to the imperial frontier culture, as Germanic/Celtic culture which influenced frontier areas seems to have been much more relaxed about women having hair unbound/uncovered.<br>
