There's tons (slight exaggeration) of Augustan segmentata now - in fact, most of it existed before the Kalkriese find and it was the discovery of the latter that enabled the identification of all these pieces (no tie loops, decorated bosses, or lobate hinges on Kalkriese type cuirasses so you don't find these). The Kalkriese piece (AD9) isn't even the oldest, as a number of fragments (fittings and plates) from Dangstetten date to c.9 BC. In one leap, that one plate from Kalkriese, together with other fittings from the site, gave us two variants of the new type.<br>
