May be someone is interested watching at these images, ancient ring putted in comparision with modern ones. Obviously in the same scale.
Note, above all, the big difference in the hole&flat surface for the rivet. As we were saying with a RAT member, making mail is almost more a jeweller's trade than blacksmithing.

Both of those holes look like they have been photoshopped so they can't really tell us much about the original link. Proper riveted mail requires a drift, not a punch, to make the holes. Using a punch removes metal that is required to help secure the rivet.

Right, I photoshopped the holes simply because image is a little dark, but I strictly respected the original shape.
