reproduction of a mainz glaidus whit composite scabbard.the central plate and the two superior plates are from a repert of Vindonissa(was lost the plate of the point) so for the point I userd plate od a repert from Wiesbaden.The gladius have handle entyrte in ivory of reindeer and blade in carbon steel c70 tempered 55 hrc of heardness

hello

this gladius is very particolar because the embossing work is very exppressive.The original is bery bad whit conservation but is possible to reconstruct the scene.For the grip of gladius i used a grip that is in the Mik's book,there there are a lot of beautiful grips to do...not always the same..i like the variety.

Indeed!
Now I have made one hilt assembly for a sword, I plan on doing the next one including a different grip style, as there are, as you say, so many to choose from in Miks.

I do have a question... The grip is Reindeer Antler... but are the hilt and pommel the same material?

And if so, what was it like working with the antler? How did you deal with the center marrow areas?
