Peake historical novels \"Marching with Caesar\"

Hi, First post here. I've lately become very interested in Roman Military history, I've been dabbling in ancient roman coin collecting for many years and am especially a fan of the Antony Legionary denarius.

In my reading I've found a lot of really old books available in Kindle format. Including several books by Felix Dahn. "prisoner of the roman eagles" and "a struggle for rome series."

Additionally I was terribly disappointed by the Dando Collins book "Legions of Rome" a search here revealed why I think.

I've also gotten the first book by R.W.Peake - "Marching with Caesar Conquest of Gaul" which I'm really enjoying, I had read Caesar's book on the gallic wars many years ago.

Any rate, collective thought on the Peake and Dahn books, tho I think more oriented toward the lay reader, like myself and more entertainment than scholarly.

I'm enjoying reading over some of the threads here!

I was also horrid disappointed with Dando Collins.

Now, as for Peake, I love his writing and the fact that he is being a bit unique in using a first person account of the stories. I have read the first two books by him and have the third waiting to be read.

Peake corrects and clarifies things also in his writings and he has either real combat experience ( retired Marine Officer) he is pulling from or has interviewed a lot of combat veterans. The scene with the Optio on fire in particular comes to mind.
