Just for my personal interest. I have always been fascinated by roman history (remember borrowing truckloads of books when I turned seven from my local library). There`s no one I know in Finland re-enacting roman period and people have outrageously thin knowledge on the roman history here. I don`t want to educate people here, will anyway give answers if someone asks something...

Hi

That's funny I can get to the page via the same link on another site but not when I paste and copy the link here.

I will try sending it to your email address.

I picked "to educate others." The areas of history that interest me are pretty obscure and suffer from a lot of misconceptions, so I hope that public reenactments will be a good way of putting a spotlight on them.

I picked "educate others", but that's not the whole reason. Here in Texas, interest in Rome is not on the top list for most people, and recruitment efforts are not greatly successful. It's not our history, and the public is not as interested as in Europe (where it IS the history of the various cultures). Even so, we appear as a novelty, and are in a position perhaps to generate interest.

We try to keep to the known facts and politely try to dispel myths and false information. The series on HBO, Spartacus, has done little to help our cause, except that people are somewhat intrigued by the gladiator experience. We try to explain that gladiators trained with the same weapons and shields that they would use in the arena, and rarely died, but it's of no use. They're convinced that a parma and sword was the weapon for everyone in training. Sigh.

Oh, well, education is key, if we're to get Texans interested. First off is to tell them we do not have any connection to Lucy Lawless, and no, they can't meet her if they join our Cohort.
