Artillery Test on Harzhorn Battlefield (235 AD)
#31
Look forward to the results. Two of them look like our 1st century AD ballista Lupila.

Thanks for the link! I think 3 - 5 bolts per minute is a low estimate. With some hours of scorpio drill over 2 days and a few adjustments on the weapon we (http://legio8augusta.de) managed a record of 12 bolts fired in 60 secs with a 3 man crew :-)
You can see the scorpio we used in testing at the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics here: http://www.planet-schule.de/sf/php/02_se...ndung=8624 (jump to minute 11:00, in German)

Great !
One of the nice feats (amongst others, of course  ) of this neat little Forum is having a number of "first row"-Folks aboard.
Like here.
High-speed dynamics at its best, as far as this Forum is concerned. Smile

Greez & Thanks

They've done it again :
This time near Straubing (Sorviodurum)
Pics (lotsa!) here:
http://www.idowa.de/home/artikel/2014/07...36065.html
Organized by the Gäubodenmuseum (Dr. Moosbauer) , Uni Trier and Uni Osnabrück participating.
(Seeemed to have been some sort of Kolloquium there)

As the Bundeswehr Uni Hamburg was present there , too, I'd guess this was an encore to the event mentioned above #348924

Since the link from Post 345904 seems to be gone for good,
I'd suggest that one:
http://www.swr.de/blog/diedurchblicker/2...eschuetze/
and that one
http://www.swr.de/blog/diedurchblicker/k...92&zoom=10
and
http://www.3sat.de/mediathek/?mode=play&obj=40642
All seems to be a "souped-up" version of last years' event rather than s.th. really new, though.

Nevertheless: Get yoselves entertained. 8+)

It claims that the test catapults, "contrary to ancient reports", still worked properly in heavy rain. True?

In P. 13 the legionnaire crew looks like being in a MG mode.

That or it means they did something "wrong" in how they reconstructed them ...
