What's a good beginners book for Dura-Europos? Looking for general stuff like the city's history, a description of the city's fall in the 250s, a map, etc. The whole 'Final Reports' series seems a bit too in-depth (not to mention expensive)... is "The Discovery of Dura-Europos" by Clark Hopkins any good? Thanks.

I have "The Discovery of Dura-Europos" by Clark Hopkins, but I haven't read it yet. I only just skimmed it for info on shields - there's not too much on that subject, but it has an interesting photo of the rectangular scutum. It seems like a good overall book. You can get it used for like $5 on amazon.com
