Oh yea, that one! I'm assumeing it's celtic and perhaps cerimonial. I hope there are more details about it in one of the books from the museum.
Just a filthy guy swingin' a hammer

Sander, just a quick correction: The "195 DM" price refers to another book from the same series (Vol. 11: Markus EGG, Italische Helme, 2 vols.), not to "Antike Helme". Dean, you might want that too...
Hm, so you want all the RGZM publishes? Could be a VERY pricey matter but as you will see, not too many books from there actually are about military equipment. At least the volumes in print from their main series "Monographien des Römisch-Germanischen Zentralmuseums Mainz" (from which "Antike Helme" is Vol. 14) are available at the normal price through the Rudolf Habelt Verlag in Bonn/Germany.
Go to their homepage, click on the UK flag, then on "Publishing house", then on "Series catalogue". You'll find there the clickable entry "Monographien des Römisch-Germanischen Zentralmuseums..." You can order online and pay with credit card.
Strangely enough they don't list "Antike Helme" as available; this could mean that the book went out of print not long ago - but there might be a few last copies available directly from the RGZM under the above address. Best wishes for your German language courses, Dean - and, Aitor: I bet that Basque is even more difficult to learn!
I'm getting a dead link for that. Looks like I need to call the museum or snail mail them. My German better get good very quick. May be it's time to just take another trip to Europe so I can break the bank on expensive books, eat cheap deli food, and sleep on park benches!

I got an out of print book from the Peabody museum by calling them so there is hope.
Just a filthy guy swingin' a hammer

Dunno why the link is dead for you; it works fine on my computer. Try www.habelt.de and go ahead as shown above. Ok, seems that it could be necessary to call the RGZM for "Antike Helme"
I have heard back from David Brown that they can get the book, but to avoid huge shipping costs it will take 4-6 weeks. They would like to know who else would be interested in placing an order, putting the books in one shipment. They will followup with a price in a day or so.
Richard Campbell, Legio XX
I just talked to Maureen at David brown and she is going to put the order in soon so ya gotta show interest or you won't get one anytime soon. I supplied her with my contact at the RGZM a week ago and she has told me she got through and simply has to put the order in. She will be doing the initial order based on how many people contact David Brown Co. and order the book I believe she said it was going to be roughly $88 but I'll wait for her to fax/email Richard about final pricing.
I knew I should have crossreferenced the other thread: Yes, Maureen says she'll fax the order on the 21st, so get them in now.
I just unexpectedly recvd a copy of this book from the RGZM and it is fantastic. there is really very few Roman helemts that I've see so far but for an armourer interested in the early italic and also greek helmets it is a fantastic book.

I sent them some emails but never got any return emails and today I found it on my kitchen table after coming back from a BBQ. What a great surprise! I recomend it to anyone interested in ornate greek and early italian helmets.
Just a filthy guy swingin' a hammer
