The arms, equipment and impact of Late Roman Clibanarii

Some of the books I have date Heliodorus to before 300AD, thats why I said he was not influenced by Julian, Ammianus etc. Sidebottom appears to support the notion that Clibanarii were armed with bows.

I'd be wary of using the ND as evidence. If that were the case then the Lanciarii would of course be armed with the Lancea, the Mattiaci with Clubs, the Brachiati would be the only ones wearing trousers etc
