These are the new lorica hamata lock-hooks Mainz model for one of our standard-bearers.He adopted the latin name L. Campanius Verecundus - From records at the permanent camp of the legion in Moesia. Refers the promotion of the veteran L. Campanius Verecundus to signifer and further to centurio of coh. I Cisipadensium (CIL V 8185). A cohors that still later belonged to the Moesian army and included in the events with IIII Scythica under the rule of Tiberius and Caligula period.

This is our new wax eagle which we intend to cast from brass.
As you can see I’ve tried to make the well known Thunders in eagle’s nails grip and I don’t know will you like the way it looks like? [attachment=0:25jt6p69]<!-- ia0 470gr.JPG<!-- ia0 [/attachment:25jt6p69] They seem to me a little primitive now but I never did something like this before and I can tell you it’s not easy :-( ( so I guess I should present my self in better way next time! Because this is the master model of the eagle I’ve modelated at the beginning and it was made from thick wax so I can shape it without problems but when I add the Thunders, weight of the model achieve 660 grams! So I cut it on pieces and take the risk to make the wax walls very thin which may lead to complete failure since the casting process. Now it weight 470gr so I guess the final model will weight about 5 kilos whish is not so bad for this attractive sizes of Roman’s Eagle Standard! Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I've been following your threads on your casting work, and all I can say is, they are nothing short of outstanding
The level of sculpture work is utterly brilliant... I wish I could sculpt like that!

Thank you folks for your encouragements!
We are still not ready with final metal cast work but we hope soon to be proud with something. 5 kilograms are and always has been 5 kilogram but look at this figure and the expression that is coming out from its position. No grace and delicacy but tension, this is what I see. Figure from this one fresco is in the same not easy position! How many Roman standards ha been found and saved to the present time I don’t know hope you will share your knowledge. This is some link about silver eagle which may belong to our first creator of Bulgarian country Kan Asparuh who has die during his war campaign against Mongols defending his new country on Balkans. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/7414087 http://www.europost.bg/article?id=671 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Bulgaria http://bulstack.com/2010/04/12/khan-aspa...ian-state/ http://apollon.blog.bg/izkustvo/2010/07/...ruh.575354

So which of your items are for sale? If none, then this thread belongs in the reenactment/reconstruction area, not Marketplace.

Agreed! This is really first class work and I am *very* impressed with the skill shown here. This is art in the finest sense of the word, but really belongs in the reenactment section! Really stunning work!

Here we go again
This time our eagle is more stylize and in spite the thunders in his clutch we manage to avoid the weight increase and even to reduce it with 500gams! Hope you’ll like the Aquila Standard!
