Quote:here another interesting celtic helmet not far from a montefortino with a triple bracket.
No, no. He's the radio operator, as clearly shown by the antenna attached to his helmet. Organic earbuds were installed in the cheek pieces, along with a horn microphone. Of course, these have not survived the centuries of improper storage. The circuitry was in the top of the bowl above the head, and the wires to the battery pack ran down the neckguard into the backpack. Circuit components and wires were looted and used for jewelry in the 70s. There. All figured out.

David, you have a great future in popular archeology and/or yellow journalism.

I wonder if the 'slide' pieces on the sides of the helmet could be for the attachment of an Italian style crest holder of the type used on the Chalcidic helmet posted up earlier in the thread. Some of these seem to have quite flat sections and the 'slide' fixtures could possibly have held the two ends of such a bracket.

This is the line drawing of a similar one, which i was thinking of.

I have a picture of the one you are refering to, Crispus, thought it was in the Data base but cannot find it.

Hmm - thanks Byron. I must say, it's interesting how the helmet conveniently changes size to accommodate different people's heads when you turn it around.

Apart from the helmet with slides for those large plate horns, I found this in my collection of pictures. I have only labelled it as being Spanish, but i'll have to search the database to see if this one is listed.
