Officer\'s impersson Subarmalis & Pteruges completed
#1
Salve guys! Sorry I've been away for a while (and all my laudes dissapeared! Cry ) anyways, I've completed my Officer's impression, or at least the Subarmalis & Pteruges part.

For my officers impression I thought it was critical to stay away from the "3 Pteruges on each shoulder" and "5 to 10 around the waist" (with none in the back) concept that overwhelms Hollywood.

In statues Emperors, generals, and officers always appear with at least three, sometimes four or more, layers of Pteruges.

I made my subarmalis from two layers of felt, the pteruges are flet covered in linen, the fringe is cotten, the tongue pteruges are leather with metal animal heads (belt buckles).

Again, I stayed far away from the miniscule pteruges concept and instead have 25 alternating colors on each shoulder and well over 100 around the waist.

Excellent work. I really like the color combination.

How did you make the animals on the tongue pteryges? Do you have some armor to go over that?

Thanks Doc!

The animal heads are belt buckles and are affixed to the lower tongue pteruges using JB Wielded clips (I punched holes through the leather and bent the clips over) and yes, the cuirass is nearly complete, then it’s time to put it all together (boots, attic helmet, etc, etc)!

Very creative. Thanks for the tip.

I am making some tongue pteryges myself and was currently wondering where I was going to get figures for them. I never thought of belt buckles.

Excellent

I like the subarmalis a lot, well done, that's a lot of work! It will look very good under a nice armour.

I do not like the animals on the tongue pteryges though... They feel too modern for me. Also a bit too much variation in the animals I feel. I think smooth tongue pteryges would look better. That's just my personal opinion!

Thanks!

Doc- I'm glad you liked my belt buckle idea. I actually purchased them with the original thought of placing them on my cuirass but Travis Lee Clark suggested I used them instead on the lower tongue pteruges because that area is more unique to the individual. (BTW: what happened to Travis?)

Marcus- I also think you're right about them being a wee bit modern and perhaps not perfectly matching.

I have some small scorpions for the second part of the tongue ptergues, I need to get around to placing them on, and I'm getting the cuirass together too. I hope to have some pix of the entire impression soon.

No problem! I mean maybe a few less kinds of animals....but still. I think your impression is going to look killer. Looking forward to the complete panoply. By far the best set of high ranking pteryges I've ever seen.

Thanks again!

You might know this... what happened to Travis Lee Clarke? His site is no longer around and I've lost correspondence with him.

Your guess is as good as mine...I know he's popped by now and again here on RAT but I'm not sure what's going on.
