Could you explain how exactly the closing system of the sword scabbard works. As far as I understand you slide together the 2 sides of the scabbard, and then put on the 3rd piece to fix all together, but how does this 3rd piece function? Is it just the pressure this piece has on the 2 pieces of the scabbard, or is it 'clasped' behind some rim on one of the scabbard plates. I'm wondering about this for some time now.

The two sides of the sheath are separated to make the working of nailing support for the chain and to decorate the front and nailing of the 3rd piece.
The spike is nailed through the two circles above the front plate.
