So there are 2 movies about Alexander in the works. One directed by Oliver Stone will star Colin Farrell (yum!). The other one will have Leonardo di Caprio as Alexander and Nicole kidman as his mom.
Go Colin! hehe
I think Leonardo di Capro has been miscasted. He should be Alexanders mom.
Ouch! It will be interesting to see how close to the Manfredi novels the Luhrmann/Di Caprio film remains. As for Stone's version, it is supposed to follow the "conspiracy" angle of an Alexander poisoning. No surprise there given the director. Stone should have concentrated on the 2nd archer behind the grassy knoll though.
Upon reflection, I think Alexander should be played by Hillary Clinton.

Frank, your observations are well put. Stone can make a good flick when he wants to. I hope he remembers the blood, the pain, and the mud he, and I, and others with us in RAT lived through in Viet Nam, and other hell-holes. Some realism in "Antiquity" flicks may be the ticket.
Right Gaius!
After all, Hillary Clinton IS an alpha male..
I am not surprised at Stone's conspiracy theory.
Must have been a CIA plot...
Where's Coppola?
After seeing Leonardo in Gangs of New York, I think he'll make a decent Alexander. Just hope they get the story and costumes right. As for the other one, it was my understanding it was really going to be about "Alexander the Gay(t)".
I think both movies will feature something the Greek-Makedonian army has brought to regions like (todays) Afghanistan (where they still carry on - after a break during the fundamentalist Taliban-regime - to imitate certain Greek erm... traditions

Well, you folks want realism.... and that is most cetainly realistic.
---------------
No, no, Dan, that's Alexander the Great Bisexual. Just ask Colin

Wendy

actually, none of them fits very well (physically), because of their pugnose. Does anyone remember the old Alexander movie with R. Burton?
---------------
Oh yea... I remember the Burton Alexander. I saw it when I was 5 maybe... They at least tried to get some costuming right...

Has anyone else noticed that the portrature statues of Alexander show a similarity between Alexander and Elvis? I hope I am just imagining this... if not, the implications are staggering... and frightning.
Actually, the Di Caprio film (the one directed by Baz Luhrmann) will apparently focus on Alexander's relationship with his "friend" Hephaestion- at least that is according to the Yahoo movie guide which you can read here:Alexander the Great film

I think that is all covered in the Manfredi novels upon which this film version is based (I haven't read them myself). I don't know about Stone's version though.
If you follow the link to Stone's Alexander movie, there is a section there on other Alexander projects that mentions a "failed 1964 television pilot" which would have starred William Shatner and Adam West. Captain Kirk meets Batman meets the Persian army. Mind boggling.
btw, Alex the G. does look a bit like Elvis, don't he? Does this mean "The King" was descended from "The Great?"

Oh my God! Its true! The prophecy has been fulfilled! The return of Alexander/Elvis is at hand! What we need to do is heed his song "Viva Las Vegas". Everyone needs to go to Vegas! The Flying Elvises will tell us what to do... they are his disciples....
