Lucius Artorius Castus (not a King Arthur thing!)

Don't worry, this isn't a thread about King Arthur - or that awful film - but about the man. IMHO he was quite an amazing soldier/general and I wondered where others might place him amongst the great?

If you want to read more about him I've included a link below. It's actually an argument for him as the bases for the historical Arthur but it's mostly about his life. Although, unlike the film, this gets the dates right!

Well, no, but she appears to have connected ends that cannot be connected that easily, and that part of her narrative is not based directly on the sources. Best forget all the stuff about battles in Britain (but then I suspect you did that already).

I realise him being in Britain is conjecture based on the Sarmations being here and him being a commander of them at some point. But the other information points to him being quite a tactician and that what I was referring to. However, I didn't realise just how wrong you're saying she got it.

Apologies Lucy, I should have read the whole of that link. I knew Malcor's evidence for the Arthurian claim was weak, to say the least, but didn't realise just how much she'd 'stayed' from the facts in other areas.
