Lucius Artorius Castus (not a King Arthur thing!) - Arturus Uriconium - 02-07-2009

Don't worry, this isn't a thread about King Arthur - or that awful film - but about the man. IMHO he was quite an amazing soldier/general and I wondered where others might place him amongst the great?

If you want to read more about him I've included a link below. It's actually an argument for him as the bases for the historical Arthur but it's mostly about his life. Although, unlike the film, this gets the dates right!

Re: Lucius Artorius Castus - Arturus Uriconium - 02-07-2009

Yes it is interesting, but I'm trying to stay away from the whole Artorius/Arthur thing.

Oh no.. not that LAC 'by Linda Malcor'.......

Re: Lucius Artorius Castus (not a King Arthur thing!) - Arturus Uriconium - 02-07-2009

Forget the LAC by Malcor! What about Artorius!

Re: Lucius Artorius Castus (not a King Arthur thing!) - Gaius Julius Caesar - 02-08-2009

Re: Lucius Artorius Castus (not a King Arthur thing!) - Arturus Uriconium - 02-08-2009

So, is everyone trying to tell me that Malcor made everything up about him?

Re: Lucius Artorius Castus (not a King Arthur thing!) - Gaius Julius Caesar - 02-08-2009

Nope, just commenting that LAC stood for Lucius Artorius Castus Smile
I could be on the wrong track there....

Well, no, but she appears to have connected ends that cannot be connected that easily, and that part of her narrative is not based directly on the sources. Best forget all the stuff about battles in Britain (but then I suspect you did that already).

So there are more than one Lucius Artorius Castus?

If not then they must be the same?

I realise him being in Britain is conjecture based on the Sarmations being here and him being a commander of them at some point. But the other information points to him being quite a tactician and that what I was referring to. However, I didn't realise just how wrong you're saying she got it.

The antonius pius blog has the whole story here: http://antoninuspius.blogspot.com/

Apologies Lucy, I should have read the whole of that link. I knew Malcor's evidence for the Arthurian claim was weak, to say the least, but didn't realise just how much she'd 'stayed' from the facts in other areas.
