Does anyone have photos of a Type B pugio from the latter half of the first century AD (between say 50-100AD).
I was interested in having some kit for a Flavia period centurion.
Does Deepeeka sell anything that fits into this category that is "acceptable" or that some adjustment can be made to make it more accurate.
Thanks

Thanks for the info.
Peroni, I had already looked at the one you mentioned from your website. I was thinking of something in brass with colorful inlays.
Are there any originals that are type B for the later first century?

Doc,
As Ade says, the DPKa Silver Inlaid Pugio is about your only "off-the-shelf" Type B pugio available. Your only alternative is to go to a custom source.
I have one and am very satisfied with it.

Thanks Edge for the reply. However, I already have a type A on custom order with silver inlays. I was looking for something a little different in a B like the one Konig made. If you go to his website then go to roman empire - to weapons - to daggers - the seventh one down.
Does anyone know the providence of this pugio or have pictures of the original or even a good reconstruction?
However, even though this dagger is different, it too has silver inlays with brass sort of like the one I am having made. This is why I was also inquiring as to the original examples that may have colorful inlays not only brass and silver.

Paolo, the type B pugiones never have enamel inlay in the sheath plate. Just silver and cupric alloys.
The enamel inlay is only found on type A scabbards.

Jef,
The Velsen dagger is a type B and has enamel inlays or colored inlays even though it is early first century.
I thought that maybe latter B types would have had similar. I guess not. Oh well, back to silver and brass.

Hi paolo,
You are right of course, there are type B plates with enamel inlay, I don't know why I said that, I must have been very confused!

Doc,
If the type 'B' sheath you were referring to on Erik Koenig's website is the one with the unusual foliate design, the original was found in Usk in south Wales and is currently on display in Caerleon. It is iron with silver inlay.
As far as I know only one example of a brass type 'B' in known (and I do not have the report on it yet), so I would steer cleer of a brass type 'B' if I was you.
Here are the two sheaths (one still with its dagger) from Usk. The one referred to above is the one on the left. Unfortunately the inlay shows up much better to the naked eye and even better in the x-ray.

Crispus,
Thanks for the information. Actually, I would like a brass type B since my type A will be iron with silver inlays.
Are you saying that the one from Konigs site is the one you posted on the left with the dagger in place or is this the brass one.
If you get any information on the brass one, I would appreciate it.

The one on the left is the one Eric Koenig has copied. Both of the examples in the picture are type 'B' sheaths and both are iron with silver inlay.
Incidentally, which type 'A' sheath are you planning on copying? Do you have a poicture you can post up?

A bit off topic, but I have a question for you Crispvs.
Erik made a reconstruction of the Hod Hill pugio scabbard with red enamel (the one with the chevron decoration). In Obmann I read it had yellow enamel, but Obmann often gets details mixed up. Do you know what colour the original enamel was?

Crispus,
I was thinking of the Obermeragau (I am not sure of the spelling). I know this has silver wire inlays.
Do you have and information on the type B brass pugio?
