LEG III ITAL ANT marching...

Quote:Within the context and quite understandable for any German native speaker the statement means:
"Most reenactment groups don´t have the possibility to do what we do, and instead rather have to stand around decoratively..." to stress what a unique thing they are doing, not to degrade other groups.
Thanks Christian, for clearing that up. Indeed, the word 'können"/"can" could mean two things! And a singl;e sentence can easily starting a nasty rumour.. I'm glad you cleared that up. My apologies to Josef Löffl for making assumptions.

Fratres, I've added a link to a short video clip about our arrival at Regensburg last Thursday
(including a short interview with Prof. Zimmer, the director of our university)

Hope you like it!

Congratulation Florian, you did it again Big Grin

Maybe I can send you some Pálinka to help you recover your strength!

Thanks József,
but we did it again, not just me

Pálinka would indeed be great, although I have already recovered due to my girlfriend's delicious curry (yum!) Big Grin

Here are a few images of the Danube march...

N.B.: the white linen tunic was washed twice during the project. Now imagine what it would have looked like without that.

Did it get white again after washing? Or did some stains remain?

You should rather ask which stains disappeared... :?

Basically it simply smelled a little less bad and the dark gray stains became a little brighter (but not much).

The other picture shows a similar tunic, which was kept at home for comparison.

It's the same as how my tunices looked like after 2 weeks of marching with one washing between.

Thanks Robert Big Grin

Our centurion's tunic looks even worse (= more authentic).

Its previous colour was a light blue... (see lower hem for traces of light blue)

The only area with the original colour is the one protected by the subarmalis (which was once white...)

So much for the tunic colour debate Big Grin

Red, white, blue, green, in the end they all end up brown

In more recent times Armies on the march were followed by people who
washed uniforms, repaired items for the troops, and sold replacement items
for the troops. Wasn't that also true in Roman times?

There were dealers for sure travelling with the army to supplie these goods, but as you see here, even after very short useage (I mean, you use your modern clothes also more than 10 days.) they get dirty (and washing those will not make them totally as new. You'll always see dirty marks on it.
