Lionel Casson, Travel in the Ancient World (1994) has a great deal of information about what travel was like for a Greek or Roman, where they might go, and why. Thankfully, the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age get their fair share of attention too, and it continues into Late Antiquity (lots of Christian sources there!).
Lionel Casson, Ships and Seamanship in the Ancient World (2nd edition c. 1995) is the standard reference on that topic. Its huge, packed with footnotes, and very readable.

I have not checked this forum frequently since 2013, but I hope that these old posts have some value. I now have a blog on books, swords, and the curious things humans do with them.
