Happy Independence Day!

Quote:I think they were actually the Articles of Confederation.

DOH! I think you're right, I was probably thinking of the "Federalist Period". Perfect example of the sad state of American education, eh? So why the heck don't we celebrate Samuel Huntington's Birthday?! Or see his face on some of our money? All he gets is a couple housing developments unwittingly named after him. Whoever the heck he was...

Well, time to set off some illegal fireworks! (Or maybe not--my homemade rocket wasn't exactly a success, last year!)

Our celebrations are always filled with illegal fireworks, due to michigan law no all fireworks that shoot a projectile are illegal and we have to drive to indiana to get anything good. This year we managed to get about $300 worth of roman candles and bottle rockets oh what illegal fun we will have.

Our tradition is to watch "Independence Day" every 4th. Silly I know.
Juan Santell, no Roman name yet. Picking a name is very important and something that should not be done hastily or without much thought.

Quote:Ugh yeah, there is this ridiculous Radio commercial for Phantom Fireworks that says "in 1776 President John Adams predicted that the 4th of July would be celebrated with fireworks ~ now you can bring [celebration] home to your family"

Yeah, that's right, it was John Adams who was our first president in 1776...Ooooh some marketing people need to die

I was wondering where that silly quote came from, glad it does have *some* sort of historical basis!

I'm just glad that over years, and forgetting that 1812 nonsence, that we've been able to be friends with our Brits 'across the pond', and even better we share this common interest with Roman stuff! Big Grin

Yes, the Historic basis is simple.
John Adams was there in 1776, and made the remark, (PROBABLY).
He later became President of the USA.
Convention is that you always address or refer to him as President John Adams, even when talking about times before he was the President. Someone was just being correct, something we are not well known for, especially in commercial advertising....
