Find It Fulham Scabbard Re-Fit - Work In Progress
#16
Quote:Sorry, but a simple yes or no is beyond me

Thats OK, I probably would have been dissappointed if you had!

I haven't had much time to look through all the scabbards as such yet,
But will once I get home, Thanks for the reminder....

I would be interested in seeing how you made the tip, and fitted it?
Did you source a pre-made on or make it yourself?

The tip was the only part of the original scabbard that I have re-used. It is solid turned brass and has a spindle which you simply form the brass guttering around and solder into place. I'll see if I can take a more detailed picture for you.

Beautiful work, Barry!

I am following this thread very closely, as I have one of these from Find-It myself and would like to copy your work (if I can do it, that is!).

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Again, great work.

Thanks Edge! I'm only copying what the Romans did (in appearance anyway!) and I would be happy to pass on all the mistakes I made along the way! Big Grin

Thanks Matt!

OK the final part of the chape decoration is formed using the same methods. Here it is nearly complete with the final clean up left to do:

I made two similar side guttering pieces for the top of the scabbard and started work on the locket plate, which is based upon a find from Valkenberg (thanks to Peronis for this!). The punched decoration is made using a cold chisel, my whitney punch (for the start of the star shapes) and files. Here is the whole scabbard in it's early stages just to give an idea of the final look (excluding leather covering to the wooden core of the scabbard of course!):

Yes indeed, but I am hoping I can bring it along to the Dover gig too.
