It is a little old fashioned, but you will still hear it sometimes.
People tend to say nowadays

'It's tipping it down' or in some places the more vulgar term 'It's p**sing it down' :oops:

Better just to say 'It's raining'

Stay away from refering to anything 'hot' especially a hot 'pfanne' :oops:
