#46
Francesco, can we use these photos for the item in the RAT helmet database, please?

Caratacus I wrote to the museum that I'll never use that for books or commercial purposes...but I'll earn no money for this so I think that you can use that, just tell that this helm is at the Archeological Museum of Naples  I think that there will be no problem.

Thanks, 'Quintus'. We have the same 'rules' over here with the National Museum of Wales. OK, In they go! Many thanks.

To elaborate: the database is on Romanarmy.COM, but that doesn't mean there is a commercial purpose connected to it. It just seems to be the natural extensions people add. Perhaps at some point it ought to be changed to a .org.

Christian's reproduction is made from phosphor bronze and will cost around 200 Euros. He says so in the fourth post Smile

About the first reproduction I linked to earlier, I don't know if the neck guard is riveted.
The price seems outrageous though :| wink:

Do you guys think Roman Tribunes would ever wear these types of helmets? Because this helmet is real, and so similar to the Attic Helm, I've considered possibly getting the reproduction for my Tribune impression, but methinks that a tribunes helmet would be much more highly decorated, whereas these are plain as f***. What do you guys think? Acceptable for a tribune?

Hmm...well, the one you're refering to looks like an infantryman's helmet. Tribunes were probably always on horseback. You could get the fancier cavalry helmet posted in the first post of this thread. Adrian Wink may sell these. OTOH, it doesn't seem to accomodate a crest, so...

But there are many more Cavaly 'sport' helmets to choose from which are quite ornate and do have crest holders, IIRC.

Auxiliary Cavalry Helmets A ('Guttman' or Xanten') and B would be better choices, IMO.
