It is not often that a major Roman tombstone is found, even rarer that anything readily available for the general public will be published about a new discovery of any kind!
The Lancaster Roman cavalry tombstone was only discovered just over two years ago and therefore Lancashire Museums are to be congratulated on the publication of 'Triumphant Rider, The Lancaster Roman Cavalry Tombstone'. by Stephen Bull.
The book is well illustrated and includes not only numerous pictures of the Lancaster tombstone in its various states of preservation but those of the other British cavalry tombstones too, including many which are less well known.
There is also a reconstruction of the cavalryman provided by yours truly. In fact I have produced two versions. The slightly more conventional version is published here, while the even less conventional version will be published in a forthcoming book published by Greenhills.
Mention is also made of the Roman Army enthusiast  , who wrote to the Queen when there were initial fears that the Lancaster tombstone might be sold overseas.
