Excavations of Roman military sites
#1
Salve!
I'd like to take part in archaeological excavations of one of Roman military sites (castra or castella) next year. But I haven't decided yet where exactly. Could you advise where active excavations are taking place especially on Roman frontiers in Britain, Rhine, Danube etc.?
Thanks in advance!

Have a look at Vindolanda. They are always excavating.

Yes, definitely look into Vindolanda. A friend was on leave from Iraq, visiting Roman sites in England. He expressed interest in assisting at the dig; they accepted his assistance and he actually found a substantial piece of pottery and a coin while digging.

He also took lots of pictures while there.
