Undecorated Type B sheath

Until two sheaths turn up with identical decoration I don't see how we'll ever know if they were pre- or post-decorated. I'd personally look to arms and equipment supply to the army for those specific periods rather than rely on style of decoration, as established bases would be in areas that had been Romanised, and where local status was as much about how Roman you were. This could be just as applicable to artisans, especially if it meant more trade for them from the relatively affluent soldiers.

The absence of a central rivet hole in this particular sheath's terminal, but the presence of other holes, just makes me think this sheath was what it is, unless someone can show there are remains of solder, or some such, to indicate it had additional decoration.
