Military Illustrated Magazine
#16
Quote:Following your reasoning magazines dedicated to the Ancient world will be expensive to produce and thereafter will allways be more costly to the reader. So what is the future for magazines like "Ancient Warfare"?

AW is an exception in that it actually commissions and pays artists for original illustrations. That takes a lot of the burden off the writers for sourcing illustrations. Jasper also has a rather extensive picture archive which can usually supplement whatever illustrations the writers supply. He can help where other editors can't or won't.

I think the future for AW is good because its orginal illustrations are a unique selling point. People will buy it as much for the illustrations as for the articles, cf. the situation with Osprey books. But you and other readers will have to be prepared to pay a premium for it.

Cheers,

R
