Handle 3th century Dura Europos shield
#1
Hi everybody,

I am looking for a sketch that should be in the Dura Europos book. It is about how the iron grip parts of a third century shield were attached. I once had a drawing of it from the very book but seem to have lost it :S

Can anyone help me out?

Best regards,
Tom

Ave,

The orginal photo of the front can be seen here:

Here is an autoCAD of the entire shield, It shows the structure of the shield 'exploded' into its basic components (plywood board, boss, nails, binding strips). You'll need to install the plug in to see it though:

If I come across a photo of the back, I'll be sure to post it for you

Thanks guy's! Nice scetches!

But I can't seem to make out how the forged iron handle bar bas attached?

I think the drawing in the Dura Europos book was of a round, flat shield...

Does anyone have acces to this drawing?

Best regards,
Tom
