Why no Egyptian Reenactment groups?

I think the big problem is, everybody wants to be the guy standing on top of the big granite block swinging the whip and nobody wants to be the 100 other guys hauling on the ropes.

I think the main problem is that reenactent is still a very male-dominated, macho and militaristic hobby.

To my knowledge, that seems to be the case with mainly Roman reenactment. The medieval/renaissance SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), has tons of women as members, and a good amount of them can become knights and participate in melees and stuff, but I don't see that in Roman reenactments. I wonder if it's because women aren't allowed (because it wouldn't be historically accurate), or not enough women are interested in that type of thing?

I know I've seen one at a 'Celtic' event in Germany. I'll dig around a bit, not sure if he was on his own or part of a group.

our Roman group has some very prominent females.....
but there is one roup I can think of that is a bit that way....

But I do have a thing for the babe who played Cleo in ROME, and am partial to the odd Goth girl or 2 8)

It would be cool to have a wider representation of the era.....our group is working on an erlier period, and I am putting a Caesarian impression together, so if her highness needs a roman military escort, I would be more than willing to perform the duty.....

:evil: But that's exactly what I mean -- women are allowed to become soldiers and knights in the SCA, but not in roman reenactment groups!!

But I do see where you're coming from -- a part of me cringes at how historically inaccurate it is, and yet bemoaning how unfair it seems, coming from a woman's point of view I mean. Ok I concede, I guess it would look weird for a 5"1 woman to be marching in formation with a bunch of big men.

.. To get back to the Egyptian topic, if anyone is ever in Chicago, you must visit the Field Museum! They have a huge area devoted to ancient Egypt, and even a replica tomb you can walk through. Very fascinating. Even though I've seen it a million times, I never get tired of that exhibit!

And thanks for the link to the group! I loved all the information regarding armour, even if i can't really take part in that aspect. I'm currently looking through the photos to get some idea of civilian clothing.
