For a local show as opposed to a well publicised show such as those run by English Heritage, I think they did very well with participants. Cavalry doesn't come cheap, plus both the early and late Romans were well represented. Gladiators were also there. Pretty good going, I'd say.

I was not meaning to be too critical simply expressing my disappointment that there were not more members, especially of your group Comitatus present. In the North west of England and North Wales there are very few large scale events so for me in particular this is the biggest Roman event within easy reach. The Ermine Street Guard attended the first two Festivals and Conquest organized the Norman festival. Both groups fielded large numbers of men and the public attendance over the week end at all these events was well into the thousands.

Therefore Looking at your Events programme on the Comitatus website I would have said (and you can correct me if I am wrong) that the Middlewich Roman festival was with the exception of Rockingham Castle one of your groups major events of the year. Comitatus has I believe a roughly similar or even larger membership than the Ermine Street Guard, the opening picture on your webpage shows at least 20 foot soldiers and yet at Middlewich your group only fielded six infantrymen and one officer!

No complaints at all about the cavalry who gave a very impressive and entertaining display but I know a certain person in another society who would have gone ballistic if that was the total turnout from the entire membership for such an event.

Sorry Sandra I just want to see a large Comitatus display and at Middlewich I was rather hoping I would!
