Does anyone have an opinion of this Deepeeka pugio for mid 1st century?

The blade of the pugio is the same than the other models of Deepeeka but the sheath is based in a middle s.III wooden sheath pugio found in Künzing (Germany)
I don´t see it realy acurated to late I sigle because there is a hiatus of the II sigle in the use of the pugio an the sheath doesn´t similar to the I sigle models more near to the original celtiberian metalic sheats of "ear" daggers

Look
here.
The dagger is 3rd century, as is the scabbard. They are both "based" on the findings from Künzing, Bavaria, where a load of these daggers has been found together with other 3rd century stuff. It is IMHO unusable anyway, especially for the first century, where the size , the scabbard, and the hilt do not fit at all.

I suppose you're right.
It's just that it looks better than so much of the Deepeeka crap.

I received this pugio some weeks ago and I must say it is well made (considering the price).
It is longer than the deepeeka pugio's for the 1st century.
But it suits me good for my 3rd century reenactment.
With any questions, please ask.

If you look at the JRMES 12/13 you will see a similar dagger, dated to the Augustian era. However "Soul of the Warrior" has a couple of new imports, non-Deepeeka daggers which you might like to look at.

I would not touch it with a barge pole unfortunately! As Christian says, it (like Deepeeka's other daggers but for other reasons) is unusable for first century AD use, being wrong in both shape and size. Third century daggers are not my area of speciality but to my eyes the blade shape does not resemble any of the third century daggers I have seen pictures of, the handle is incorrectly formed and finished and the sheath only resembles the Kunzing and Coptal Court examples to a level of vague approximation.
As usual I would counsel against buying anything Deepeeka or any other Indian firm tries to pass off as a Roman dagger unless you want to spend a good deal of time and effort modifying it.
Caius,
If you look more carefully you will see that first century frame type sheaths differ in their construction from the third century sheaths which at first sight seem to resemble them. Sorry I cannot post pictures right now. I will try to put some up in a day or two.

I don't think I have ever seen anything you could take "off the shelf" from Deepeeka and match it perfectly to any historical artifact, but I find their stuff is usually closer than some other suppliers, (ie Nauseum Replicas)...
Deepeeka continually mixes up dating, but they do keep improving, unlike the maker of "Trooper Helmets".
