It seems there is a wire going around above the brass attachment right in front. Do you think this wire should be brazed on ? Or should we keep it to simple fluting only with cut marks ?

Red enamel is what Ildar's post provides.

Gagan.
I do not think that you should be casting any reinforce peek for any helmets, in fact looking at the original slot at the centre of the bowl it appears to be around 18 guage sheet iron. It would have been sheet iron cut to shape then to give it strength the forward edge of the reinforce would have been bent down at about 10mm or so very much like the reinforce we find on the Hebron helmet.

Helmet begins to resemble of the original.
Photographs of the prototype should be made in a way similar to the original -Centurion helmet from Sisak. This will make it easier to compare the original with the prototype. I allowed myself to make minor drawings adjustments . In favor of qualitative work process.

Apologies to Rado. My last comment was a bit abrupt on reading again (pressed for time at the time). The helmet's looking great, and it's the only quibble I'd have.

The Deepeeka prototype of Centurio helmet from Sisak, Croatia is now with me( courtesy of Mr.Gagan).
Now I photographed on possible similar way as a museum exhibit. Helmet begins to resemble of the original. There are some obvious inconsistencies but together we will correct them in the work process. 1. As I thought the shape of the neck protector is wrong. 2. One more spherical masked trim should be placed on the neck protector.

Hello Rado,
It is making progress to be sure. But if I may give you my input. I agree with your drawing that the neckguard needs to have sharper corners and the "eyebrows" need to be slighly curved. However, there are certain things that need to be adjusted. 1) The flange of the ear guard that is riveted to the bowl must be made smaller (look at the original). The flange in the reconstruction is too big and ruins the effect of an elegant ear guard. 2) The rosettes on the neckguard should be the same as those on the temples under the browband. There is no reason they would be different. In helmets where the rosettes are different it is only because repairs have been performed. 3) The rosettes where the browband is are too big and come out of the browband too much. Only half should be seen not nearly all of it. 4) The browband is much....much....too wide, it should be made narrower. 5) The cheekpieces appear squashed towards the bottom and not proportional. 6) The loops to tie the crest must be made much closer to the ear guards. It is obvious that the original helmet regardless of its current state must have had decorations that were very fine as is obvious from what is left over. Thus the reconstruction should also have very gentle and fine details not mass produced ones.

The flange on the crest holder on the prototype appears to be much wider than the original.

I am sure that Mr.Gagan read your comments and will keep in mind your valuable advice.
You are people with rich experience in the Roman reconstruction and I hope that every post will be take into account. |
