Thanks Sam and Paul!
Paul, I don't suppose you would move this to the correct thread as well? :-?
Not sure how it got here....

Thanks Virilis! It's been a long wait, but only a couple of weeks now!
After waiting almost 4 years for this beauty, I finally came across the first image I have seen of the original, thatnks to Jconyard!
A veritable encyclopedia of information on history of all periods!
Thanks John!

Am I right in thinking that the blade is modelled on one of the Canterbury murder grave blades?

I don't know Crispus, the only photot I have seen of the original was one John showed me last night.
I have never found any info on it in any of my searches.
Anything you know about the original would be great!
There other bits and bobs in the photo which I cannot identify either.

Hi, please i would like to see this sword - where is the foto?
Batrick Barta - in the theme celtic sword ist not 100% authentical smith, he's working fantasy-grips&unauthentical blades; i preffer some other good smiths. His swords looks nice but aren't authentical replicas.

Well the blade is supposed to be of sandwich construction as the original.
I have seen his pattern welded blades too.
I cannot vouche for the handle, but he says he makes these swords as per
requests from museums etc, so you would hope his methods are correct.
But, it certainly fits for Roman swords of the period.
The picture is in the link, as the moderator split the thread instead of moving the whole thread.

The shape of your blade appears to match that of the shorter of the two swords from the Canterbury grave, as do the grooves. You can see a diagram of the grave in B&C2 on page 33 (I do have a better diagram of this somewhere which shows the scabbard chapes as well but I am not sure where I have put it) and a drawing of the swords on page 132.

Thanks Crispus, it would be interesting.
I have a photo of the two but as it was not mine i hesitate to post it.
I think the chape itself is not as close to the one in the photo, but, a scabard can be modified... 8)
